DSTL | Daily Roundup for Monday, October 26, 2026

Failure of the day: Quibi co-founders Katzenberg and Whitman explain what went wrong — CNBC, Oct 22, 2020 (historical). Quibi raised $1.75 billion to sell "quick bite" mobile video and shut down just over six months after launch, with its founders blaming a paywall people hit before they understood the product and a pandemic launch that erased the commutes it was built for. Lesson: no amount of funding or star power substitutes for proving that real users want the product before you charge them for it.

Affirmation of the Day: Monday is a blank ledger, and the only entry that matters is the first one I make. Today I will pick the hardest conversation, the ugliest bug or the scariest cold call on my list and do it before lunch, so the rest of the week runs downhill.

App of the Day: Notion: Notes, Tasks, AI — An all-in-one workspace for notes, docs, wikis, task boards and project tracking that syncs across your team; free with in-app purchases (Plus from $11.99 a month). Rated 4.8 stars from about 90,000 ratings on the U.S. App Store.

Useless Tidbit: Caterpillar came to Peoria 117 years ago yesterday: on October 25, 1909, Pliny Holt bought the bankrupt Colean Manufacturing plant in East Peoria for a $50,000 note, after local implement dealer Murray Baker tipped off Holt's California headquarters that a factory worth at least $450,000 was sitting idle near the Midwest's farm markets.
